Box trucks are an affordable yet versatile option when it comes to transporting cargo. However, these seemingly simple vehicles actually come in a range of different shapes and sizes. Finding a model that suits your needs just right can be difficult. That is why the experts at DeLand Truck Center have created this guide to getting the most out of your box truck purchase.

What Size?

While you will obviously want a truck that is big enough to fit all of your cargo into, don’t forget that the bigger the truck, the more it’ll cost to purchase, maintain, and operate it. Of course, a box truck that is too small will mean taking extra trips, so try to strike a balance when it comes to size.

What Weight?

Remember that size and weight are not interchangeable. For example, a big and lightweight chassis is good for transporting large amounts of lighter materials, but not for cargo that is much smaller and heavier. Make sure that whatever box truck you purchase can handle the weight you plan to haul.

What Height?

Taller box trucks might cause a problem on routes that have low bridges, overpasses, or tunnels. You should also make sure that your box truck isn’t so tall that it makes it difficult to unload cargo into any warehouses you might be using.

What Length?

It is very important that your box truck’s chassis matches the length of the box itself. Not doing so will lead to improper weight distribution relative to the rear axle, which can cause all kinds of problems, including tire treads wearing out more quickly due to excessive weight.

What Type Of Floor?

What floor you should choose for your box truck depends on the kind of cargo you plan to transport. Hardwood and pine flooring are poor choices if you plan to transport heavy cargo or cargo that can leak. Steel floors provide protection, but they can also corrode. Aluminum does not corrode, making it great for transporting liquids, but it also tends to be more expensive.
